Replication allows you to synchronize the data between two
databases so that they have the same information even if updated by
two or more users. If you can connect to both databases (on a LAN)
you can use the Local Replication options to synch them both at the
same time.
Local Replication
The current database you have open will be displayed in the 'Current
Connection' field. Choose the type of database to replicate with
(Access or SQL), then click the 'Open' button to open an existing
database. When you select a database, it will be authenticated that
it's a valid application database and that YOU have security access
to replicate the current database with it. If you do NOT have
security, you will be prompted to choose another database.
Creating A New Replica
Click the 'New' button to specify a location for a new replica; the
database name will be displayed in the 'Replicate With' field when
its created and ready to replicate.
Choosing The Tables To Replicate
The list of tables are in the check list box in the middle of the
dialog. By default, all tables are selected; however, sometimes if
you want to reduce the number of records to be replicated, you can
uncheck tables you know don't need updating.
If a table uses or relies on data in another table that's not listed
(such as a System table), the data from the unlisted table will also
be updated so that the dependencies between the two tables of data
are consistent.
NOTE: All selected (and dependent) tables from both databases
are replicated. If one database has a table, but the other one
doesn't, the table and its data will be added when replicated. When
records are the same, based on the unique identifier field in each
record, between the databases, the utility will always keep the
latest record, based on the EditDate field.
When your selections are made, click the 'Start Replication' button
to begin Replication. A message box will let you know when it’s
complete and how many records were changed.
