Creating, Opening & Logging In To Databases

Click your browser's 'Back' button to return to the previous page.

The Login dialog is the first thing you see when you open the program, prompting you to login to an existing database, or to open another or create a new database.

Overview
The Login dialog is where you can:
1) Create a new database.
2) Connect to an existing database.
3) Login to a database with Security enabled.

The Sample Database
The first time you open the system, the database path in the 'Open Database' field will display the name of the sample database, which you can use to learn more about the system before you start working in a production database. If the Sample database has Security enabled (see below), you'll need the default login name and password to open it:

Login Name:    Manager
Password:        password

When Security Logins Are Not Required
If you're opening an application that has Security disabled, you will simply click the 'Connect' button to open the database.

When Security Is Enabled
If you're opening a database where Security has been 'turned on', the Login dialog will prompt you for your login name and password. Once you successfully login to a database, each time thereafter your Login Name will already be entered so you don't have to key it in again. You'll just need to enter your password to open the database.

Enter your User Login Name and Password and click 'Login' to login into the database displayed above. If you do not have a security record in the database, you will not be allowed access.

Click 'Cancel' to close the system without logging in.

If you forget your password...
Enter your Login Name, then click the 'I forgot my password' link under the Password field. The Internal Security System Manager will email you your application password to the email address associated with your login name.

Open an Existing Access Database
Click the 'Open Database' option, then click the 'Browse' button to locate the file to open. Click ‘Open’ to return to this dialog and the name of the database will appear in the ‘Open Database’ field.

Click the ‘Connect’ button (when Security is disabled) or Login to the database to continue, or 'Cancel' to exit.

Connecting to a SQL Database

Click the 'Open Database' option; the SQL Server name should already be setup by your System Administrator and displayed in the field.  If not, enter the name of the SQL server.  Then enter or choose the name of the database.  Click 'OK' to continue.  The connection will be verified and the name of the server and database will be displayed in the 'Open Database' field on the Login dialog.

Enter your login name and password and click "Login" to open the database.

Creating a New Database
Click the 'Create Database' option, then click the 'Browse' button to choose a location for the new database. Enter a meaningful name for it and click ‘Save’ to return to this login dialog.

Click the ‘Create Database’ button to build the database structure. A prompt will tell you when it’s successfully created.

Whenever a new database is created, all of the default system data is copied to it, including the default Action Keys and Report Designer data. Also there are some other default entries made so that you always start a new database with required data.

If the system is set to ALWAYS require a Security login, the default Login Name and Password will be:

Login Name:     Manager
Password:         password

NOTE: If you are setting up a new production database, you should ALWAYS change or remove this default Login Name and Password record (in Administration/Security) so that users cannot use it to login.
